The Transition Period Has Expired. The time in which British lawmakers could prepare for the exit from the European Union has expired, as of DECEMBER 31, 2020. The United Kingdom has now formally and completely departed from the E.U. with its independent governing system.
Retained E.U Laws. After the expiration of the transition period on DECEMBER 31, 2020 many of the European Union laws became inapplicable to the United Kingdom. However, there are a grouping of 150,000 laws and treaties that are being carried over – about 3,000 of which have a practical impact on the nation. Many are domestic laws formed in relation to EU regulation, or EU laws that were directly applicable in the UK without legislation, such as the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation
